The 58-year-old TV presenter, married to Anglo-Nigerian singer Ben Ofoedu, has claimed quiz show host Anne asked her how she attracts “big black friends” and Vanessa insisted it be is a “very sick” one. judged ”comment that didn’t make it onto the final show.
Vanessa claimed that Anne asked her, “Vanessa Feltz, the way you look, how do you think you end up with all those big black friends?”
The radio DJ told the Daily Mirror newspaper, “I said, ‘I don’t think you will use this on the show as it is racist and also totally inaccurate and unsuitable in all respects.’
“And they didn’t use it. I thought it was rated very poorly and you must have agreed as it wasn’t aired. “
Vanessa has admitted that she was “shocked” by the comment.
She said: “It was pretty amazing to be told in the middle of a huge auditorium with a huge audience and many other participants and a huge crew. It wasn’t a private, whispered remark in the bathroom, it was part of a huge television show.
“I didn’t discuss it with anyone after that as I knew from my answer that it couldn’t be used.”
Drag act Dave Lynn was on the same episode of the quiz show Anne hosted from 2000 to 2017 and was “quite shocked” by the comment. He remembers telling Vanessa it was “a bit racist”.
He explained, “We took a break and I said to Vanessa, ‘That was a little strange. I thought it was a bit racist. ‘
“I think she meant it as a joke, but it didn’t come off like that and Vanessa handled it very well.”
Vanessa doesn’t want Anne to be banned from her new role as the presenter of ‘Countdown’, however.
She said, “I think that was then and ‘Countdown’ is now.”
