The Barcelona event was scheduled to take place June 2-6. Tame Impala, The Strokes, Tyler, the Creator, FKA Branches, Charli XCX, and Gorillaz were all booked for the performance.
After the organizers of Primavera were forced to cancel their plans for the 2020 festival due to the coronavirus pandemic, the prevailing uncertainty surrounding the global health crisis has now also forced the cancellation of Primavera Sound 2021.
The organizers confirmed this morning (March 2nd) that “it is with great sadness to announce that the 20th anniversary of Primavera Sound Barcelona has been postponed to 2022 due to force majeure”.

“We made this painful decision due to the uncertainty surrounding the legal framework for major events on the original dates of the festival (June 2-6), which, in addition to the current restrictions, means that we cannot work normally on the event Prepare for the festival to ensure that once the date arrives, it can be celebrated, ”the festival said in a statement.
“While it is painful, we know this is the right decision, especially for those of you who need to plan your trip in advance,” they continued.
“But the twentieth anniversary of Primavera Sound deserves a party like we’re used to, and the global situation doesn’t seem favorable to allow this to happen this summer. At least not so that we can experience the entire Primavera sound experience. “
All ticket holders have the option to keep their tickets for 2022, although a 2021 refund option will be available starting June 2nd – when Primavera announces their 2022 lineup will be announced.
“We really apologize for the inconvenience and disappointment this may cause. We’ll do twice as well in 2022, ”added the organizers. “Because yes, really, we’re going to dance together again … and like never before.”
Primavera Sound previously hailed the successful results of a trial they held in December that examined the possibility of holding live music events without social distancing during the pandemic.
The organizers recently announced a series of personal appearances at the Coliseum Theater in Barcelona – although these shows strictly adhere to coronavirus security measures.
