The next series of Derry Girls will finally be shot this year, star Nicola Coughlan has confirmed

Channel 4 announced the order for a new season of the Northern Irish comedy of the 1990s back in April 2019.

However, filming, which was originally scheduled for last summer, has been suspended indefinitely by the coranavirus pandemic.

Now, Coughlan, who plays Claire, announced on Twitter, “Can confirm that Derry Girls Series 3 will be filmed this year and I can’t wait

“Covid pushed back shooting several times, which was so shitty, but honestly the storylines on this series are the best we’ve ever done. So I can’t tell you how much it was worth the wait.”

The comedy creator Lisa McGee retweeted the comments.

In an interview with The Guardian just before Christmas, Coughlan also said, “I’m not allowed to say anything about the scripts, but they are just phenomenal. She is a real genius, Lisa is. Now I just really wanna do it, and we can’t! ‘

Saoirse-Monica Jackson, Louisa Harland, Jamie-Lee O’Donnell and Dylan Llewellyn will return with Coughlan, currently starring as Penelope Featherington on Netflix hit Bridgerton.
