Stanley Tucci says he and Colin Firth could use their real friendship to support their on-screen relationship on Supernova.

The 60-year-old actor stars alongside Colin in the drama he plays Tusker, a writer suffering from dementia who travels around England with partner Sam to reunite with friends and family, and suggests that the film be softer is what it seems.

The Hunger Games star believes his own performance has been enhanced by working with longtime friend Colin, 60, as they have shared so many ups and downs in real life.

During an appearance on BBC One’s The Graham Norton Show, Stanley said, “I know it doesn’t sound like a funny movie, but there is a slight touch and it was such a beautiful script.”

Regarding the relationship between him and Colin, he added, “He and I are both 60 years old and we have known each other for over 20 years – and as you go through this phase of your life with children, you get married and aging parents have a lot of experience – and much of it is unhappy.

“We’ve seen each other through those times, but also through the happiest times. It can’t help but affect our relationship on screen.”

Stanley revealed that the couple’s bond grew even stronger during the filming as they spent so much time together.

He recalled: “We stayed next to each other, we worked together all day, I cooked for us every evening and then we went home together on the train. We never seemed to get tired. “

Stanley had previously revealed that he and Colin would play opposite roles in Harry Macqueen’s film.

He said, “I think we did it the way we should. But yeah, Harry offered me the role of Sam and so we went in. Colin wanted to play Tusker, and then I kept reading and thought, ‘Something is wrong. I wonder if we (switch). ‘”
