Along with these returning stars are Oscar-winning Marisa Tomei as Peter’s aunt May Parker and Tony Revolori as Peter’s schoolmate Eugene ‘Flash’ Thompson.
Elsewhere in the film, Benedict Cumberbatch will also appear as his mystical superhero Doctor Stephen Strange, who will mentor Peter, much like Iron Man in Spider-Man: Homecoming and Nick Fury in Spider-Man: Far From Home.
Doctor Strange in Multiverse of Madness UK release date, sequel cast, plot, villains
However, some of the most intriguing castings include the return of stars from the previous two Spider-Man film franchises.
Jamie Foxx will repeat his role as the vicious Electro / Max Dillon from The Amazing Spider-Man 2, while Alfred Molina will return as Doctor Otto Octavius from Spider-Man 2.
Elsewhere, ComicBook.com reported that Charlie Cox finished filming the film when he re-casts his role as superhero Matt Murdock from the Daredevil series, which ran on Netflix for three seasons.
There were also widespread rumors of the return of Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield as the two previous incarnations of Peter Parker in live-action films, with Collider reporting on their comeback.
The report also suggested a return for Kirsten Dunst as Mary Jane Watson from director Sam Raimi’s Maguire films and Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy from director Marc Webb’s Garfield films.
However, speaking to Esquire, Tom Holland denied Maguire and Garfield would be returning, saying, “No, no, they won’t appear in this film. Unless they have withheld from me the most extensive information that I believe is too big a secret to withhold from me.
“But so far no. It will be a sequel to the Spider-Man films we made. “
Fans were expecting a multiverse tale similar to the hit animated film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and only reinforced by the confirmed links of the third film to the 2022 film Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
