Rebel Wilson signed up for the upcoming High School Comedy Senior Year

The Australian actress is leading the new project with Grace and Frankie director Alex Hardcastle on board to direct the film, according to Deadline.

Rebel will also produce the film alongside Todd Garner and Chris Bender, with Brandon Scott Jones writing the script based on an original idea by Andrew Knauer and Arthur Pielli.

Senior Year follows a cheerleader, played by Rebel, who wakes up after 20 years in a coma and returns to high school to try to regain her status and achieve the title of prom queen she missed two decades ago.

“I mean, who doesn’t love a high school cheerleading movie? #SeniorYear “, wrote the 40-year-old on Instagram next to a screenshot of the deadline article.

Jeremy Stein, Jake Wagner and Jake Weiner are on board as executive producers.

The Pitch Perfect star took a break from Hollywood last year and instead began a “Year of Health” to improve her wellbeing and fitness.

In 2019, the actress had 12 months to do appearing in multiple films, including the comedy Isn’t It Romantic, The Hustle alongside Anne Hathaway, Taika Waititi’s quirky comedy Jojo Rabbit, and the critically played musical Cats.
