Pussy Riot have teamed up with Dorian Electra on a new song

Toxic was produced by Dylan Brady from 100 Gecs and is a chaotic fusion of rave beats and glitchy electronics. It will appear on an upcoming EP expected in the spring, along with Rage, which was released by the Russian art collective in early February.

The track features a gruesome video by Nadya Tolokonnikova, co-founder of Pussy Riot, with 3D artwork by artist Ksti Hu. Tolokonnikova said:

“In 2021 Pussy Riot will celebrate its 10th anniversary. It’s been 10 years of a radical experiment – only creating art that is inherently political. Every single work of art that we create is political, there can be no exceptions to this rule.

“Poisonous is political because personal is political. Being single reflects the importance of self-care, appreciating your sanity, and avoiding relationships that poison you. A few years ago, I had an emotionally abusive relationship (which was also physically abusive – I was held against my will in a house where we lived).

“The best way to process a trauma for me is to create art. That’s why we wrote Toxic with Dorian and Dylan. Besides music, I use other tools to convince others that their sanity is paramount, train to recognize emotional violence, and to leave abusive relationships as soon as possible. “

Alt-pop star Electra added, “It’s a great honor to be featured on this track. Nadya is one of my all time favorite people, friends, and collaborators, and I’ve always been so excited about Pussy Riot’s mix of activism and art. This song came together so quickly with Nadya and Dylan in the studio – we knew we had to do something hella abrasive and sweet at the same time. “
