Mike Tyson slams Hulu for the biopic series, calls it "cultural embezzlement," and plans a rival project

Hulu announced today that it has placed a serial order on Iron Mike, a Mike Tyson biopic series I, Tonya With screenwriter Steven Rogers and director Craig Gillespie MixedKarin Gist as a showrunner.

This angered Tyson, who made a fairly strong statement on social media announcing the “cultural embezzlement” and “deaf” series, especially during Black History Month.

“Hulu’s announcement to make an unauthorized mini-series of Tyson history without compensation is unfortunate but not surprising,” the boxing legend wrote in an Instagram post (see below). “This announcement on the heels of social differences in our country is a prime example of how Hulu’s corporate greed led to this deaf-mute cultural misappropriation of the Tyson life story. Confirming this announcement during Black History Month only confirms Hulu’s concern for Dollars over respect for Black Story rights. Hollywood needs to be more sensitive to black experiences, especially after all that happened in 2020. “
