The creator of the Baby Driver is writing the script with Michael Bacall for the Paramount Pictures production of King’s dystopian novel.
The script is said to be “much more faithful” to the book than the 1987 film with Arnold Schwarzenegger and more of a new adaptation than a remake.
The Running Man, published under the pen name Richard Bachman, is set in the dystopian United States in 2025. The story follows Ben Richards as he participates in The Running Man game show, in which participants attempt to evade capture by “hunters” who are bound to kill them.

Deadline reports that Simon Kinberg will be producing on his Kinberg’s Genre Films banner alongside Nira Park of Wright’s Complete Fiction Company and Audrey Chon of Genre Films. The adaptation is in development, no casting news and no release date have been set yet.
In other news, Wright recently shared Martin Scorsese’s list of the Top 50 British Movies to encourage movie fans to broaden their horizons.
Filmmaker Shaun Of The Dead said he sent the legendary director a thank you letter for everything he had done for cinema over the years and asked him in a footnote what his favorite British films were. Scorsese responded with a very long list from The Asphyx (1972) and Yield To The Night (1956) to These Are The Damned (1963) to The Legend Of Hell House (1973).
