Paul made the announcement on a Twitter post that read, “I know which school I’m applying to! We are very excited to welcome Charlize Theron and Kerry Washington to the School for Good and Evil! Everyone, prepare for school! @CharlizeAfrica @kerrywashington @netflix @NetflixFilm (sic) ”
Charlize and Kerry will play Lady Lesso and Professor Dovey respectively and join the previously announced cast members Sofia Wylie and Sophia Anne Caruso.
“The School for Good and Evil” follows best friends Sophie (Caruso) and Agatha (Wylie), who are supposed to enroll in schools where famous fairy tale characters were previously taught.
Sophie plans to enroll in the School of Good to join alums like Cinderella and Snow White, while Agatha knows she is eligible for Evil School.
However, the two friends have an opposite fate and must find out who they really are.
The book is the first in a six-part saga published by Chainani and was an instant New York Times bestseller when it was published in 2013.
The series has sold over 2.5 million copies and has been translated into 30 languages. The final book in the series, The School of Good and Evil: A True King, was published by HarperCollins last summer.
Joe Roth, Jeffrey Kirschenbaum, Jane Startz and Feigcos Feig and Laura Fischer will produce the upcoming film. The executive producers are Zack Roth, Patricia Riggen and Chainani.
TheWrap says The School for Good and Evil is slated to debut on Netflix in 2022.
