The Geordie duo, who have hosted the series since its launch in 2002, would “love” to see more “conflict” in the camp after the last series was criticized as being too nice and the former Manchester United footballer be could what was missing.
Speaking to the Sun newspaper’s TV magazine, Ant McPartlin said, “It’s always good to have people speak their minds and pucker up a few feathers.
“As much as we love people who get along and have fun, we also love a little conflict there.”
Dec Donnelly agreed, insisting that the 49-year-old expert would be a perfect fit for the way he tears down his former teammates in the studio.
He added, “Roy Keane for me. I would love to see how he treats his roommates with the same disdain that he treats Gary Neville, Jamie Carragher, and Jamie Redknapp.
“He wouldn’t be nonsense, he would not stand it if the others were stupid. He’s at the top of my list. “
The presenting couple recently admitted that they would like to return to Gwrych Castle in North Wales later this year after being forced to move out of usual Australian jungle encampment due to coronavirus pandemic travel restrictions.
Ant said: “If we have to stay in Wales during the coronavirus I would be very happy. We were very welcomed in Wales. There were cardboard clippings of me and Dec at the butcher’s shop, and the local school paid a tribute.
“We would like to go back there. We’d miss the sunshine, mind. “
And Dec would like to see some “grumpy” celebrities on the show next year.
He explained, “Don’t get me wrong, I loved it last year and it was beautiful and I think it was the show we all needed. However, I would like to have some grumpy celebs. “
