Manchester City Responded To Porto’s Complaints After A Goalless Draw At The Do Dragao

The English club remembered a racist incident which occurred between both sides back in a meeting in 2012.

The match between Porto and Man City, who are both now in the last 16 of the Champions League, ended 0-0. but the war of words between both clubs has continued.

After the game, the Portuguese club issued a statement slamming Guardiola and some City players. After criticising the referee following the first meeting in Manchester, they did the same again after the game in Portugal.

The coach and the Man City players should be thankful for the luck they had again with the refereeing. After the scandals in the game in England, this time a penalty wasn’t given for a more than obvious foul by Ederson on Otavio, As well as the fact Fernandinho was not sent off. Despite being 35, he is a clear example that football money counts a lot, but it doesn’t buy class or notion,” Porto said on their website.

Man City, after the controversy caused, did not hesitate in slamming the statement and called their comments “surprising and disappointing”.

“This is not the first time Porto have reacted badly in circumstances like this. On this occasion it is the ill-judged and targeted criticism of some of our individual players and indeed our manager, which we wholly reject.

In 2012, the last season we encountered them, it was the denial by the club of clear racist behaviour of their fans (towards Joleon Lescott), for which they were investigated and fined. In this context, this latest outburst is almost as surprising as it is disappointing,” City responded.
