Jack Grealish Has Responded To Aston Villa’s Latest Brush With The Video Assistant Referee

Villa have had more than their fair share of VAR incidents since it was introduced into the top-flight last season.

Last Saturday’s defeat against Brighton and Hove Albion saw referee Michael Oliver reverse his decision to award Villa a late penalty which would have given them the chance to level the scores from the spot after being advised to watch replays on the pitchside monitor.

Villa, trailing 2-1 at the London Stadium, thought they’d snatched what would’ve been a well earned point when Ollie Watkins appeared to shrug off defender Angelo Ogbonna and fire past Lukasz Fabianski.

But Watkins specifically his armpit was adjudged to be offside by a matter of centimetres after a lengthy VAR check and the goal was ruled out.

It led to fury from Villa fans and calls from pundits Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher to reassess how football’s rules are implemented by VAR.

Villa skipper Grealish, who had cancelled out Angelo Ogbonna’s opener, said on social media: “Gutted with the result, can’t believe we’ve came away with nothing. We go again Friday.”

In a separate tweet he added: “As for VAR, I’ve shared my views before and it’s now just getting borderline embarrassing with some of the decisions. Ruining the game.”
