David Luiz Has Been Ruled Out Of Arsenal’s Europa League Clash With Rapid Vienna

Jimenez was taken to hospital with a fractured skull, while Luiz was declared fit to continue before later asking to be substituted at half-time.

The Brazilian’s bandage could be seen leaking blood and Arsenal’s decision to keep him on the pitch during the 2-1 defeat has been heavily scrutinised.

The Gunners have defended the call, insisting concussion protocols were followed.

The cut on Luiz’s head has not yet healed, and the club have now released another statement which confirmed his absence for Thursday’s match.

“David was visited at home by our club doctor on Monday during the scheduled day off and reported to our training centre on Tuesday,” the club said.

“Close care of David’s cut and general monitoring of his wellbeing will continue in the coming days and David continues to be in good health.

“The cut to David’s head will take some days to heal and therefore he will not be available for Thursday’s match. We will continue to closely support and monitor David’s progress.”

Wolves revealed on Monday that Jimenez had undergone surgery, with the Mexico striker later posting a message of thanks.

“Thanks for your support messages,” wrote Jimenez. “I will be under observation and I hope to return to the pitch soon.”
